Question: When did you start/begin your career?
Answer: I have been a nurse since January 6, 2004. I have been in pediatrics since that time and worked in general pediatrics for 4 years before going to pediatric pulmonology for 12 1/2 years. Then I came here with this amazing practice. My passion would be kiddos and adults living with cystic fibrosis. What they do to live everyday is nothing short of amazing: their strength and drive to live with a disease that isn’t curable at this time. Also, to see all the studies going on to try and find a cure is awesome!!
Question: How early did you sense you wanted to pursue this career – and what compelled you toward/into it?
Answer: I wanted to become a nurse when my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer when I was 9 years old. I was taught how to take care of my dad at that time. I was flushing and administering meds thru his port, going to chemo and radiation treatments with him. Also, I found myself changing and cleaning his wounds from his multiple brain surgeries. He passed away a few months after I turned 11. He is the reason why I wanted to become a nurse and feel like I was helping people.
Question: Academic pursuits or accomplishments worthy of mention [including school(s) attended]?
Answer: I have an associates degree in business management with emphasis on office management. I worked as an assistant office manager at a construction company for 3 years before going back to school and getting my nursing license.
Question: Hobbies? Enjoyable downtime doings?
Answer: I absolutely love to read. I read all genres of books. If I have any downtime you will see me reading. I have the nook and kindle app on my phone.
Question: The best piece of advice I ever recall receiving was…
Answer: The best advice I would say that I received is to always treat people the way you want to be treated. You never know what someone else is going through, their struggles, or their story. Also, always show up, do your best, and work hard.
Question: One of the most inspirational people I’ve ever known is _______ – and the reason he/she inspired me so is …
Answer: The person who has touched my life the most would be my grandmother. She was my best friend. I could always go to her and talk to her about anything in this world no matter what. She never judged me or anyone. She was the most caring person anyone had the pleasure of meeting. She always used to tell us, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” Also, “keep your opinions about others to yourself, that’s how drama starts.”
