Christmas is right around the corner and the sweets and food continue to roll in. It can be a great time for many but for those who are overweight, specifically obese children, it can be another opportunity to pack on a substantial amount of weight.

So if you’re a parent and want your kids to enjoy the Holiday season but in a healthy way… here are a few tips to help:

1.    Everything in Moderation
During the holiday season completely avoiding sweets and unhealthy foods is almost impossible…. you love them and your kids love them even more. Here’s the crazy thing, you can still have your cake and eat it too (see what I did there). Have the sweets but just don’t have them EVERY DAY. Don’t let your children (or yourself) turn the holidays into a 3 month long binge. Set boundaries for your child (“you can only have this much on this day”) and stick to them.

2.    Fruits and Veggies are good
They may not like it all that much but make sure your kids are getting plenty of fruits and vegetables during the holidays. They’ll thank you for it later in life… maybe

3.    Stay Hydrated
Remember to make sure that your kids are drinking lots of water. Typically being hydrated will cut down on cravings dramatically.

4.    Get Active and Stay Active
Not only will keeping to a regular exercise routine lower stress (which typically increases during the holidays) and promote energy, but keeping up with regular exercise will help hold holiday weight gain at bay, too.

At Flex Squad Fitness we offer small group classes that both parents and their children can attend to get healthy and active together. If you and your child would like to join us for a free week trial give us a call at 803-480-5675.
